Wedding card for a good friend of us

We are invited to participate in the wedding mass and banquet of our friend, Vicky & Kelvin.

We knew Kelvin 10 years ago since I joined the church choir in 2002 and he was the conductor. In our wedding in 2005, Kelvin was one of the groomsmen and the MC of our banquet.

Though we haven’t met each other for 1-2 years, once we heard Kelvin is getting married, we immediately promised that we would attend his wedding.

For Chinese weddings, we usually give the couple some money in the red pocket as a wedding present. Nowadays people also use some nicely printed envelopes instead of the traditional one.

For me, I designed and handmade a wedding card and did some decoration on a pink envelope, together with a small red pocket containing cash!

This is my first trial for making a decent wedding card – Thanks for the inspiration from PaperArt, a craft materials store in Hong Kong. I stamped an image of a fashionable couple, with the man in suit and lady holding a bouquet, on a piece of watercolour paper;

Then I hand-cut a wedding gown with a piece of embossed, pearl paper, which I bought from Taipei earlier this year. Then I stick the gown on the stamped lady, so it looks like she is in a wedding gown…. It looks perfect!

Instead of just sticking the image onto a card, I die-cut it by Spellbinder's oval floral die; added the same oval floral frame on top. 

I added another layer of bouquet and some glitters gel to the bouquet so it became a pop-up and looked real.

At the end I was struggling on what greeting message I should write, I tried to handwrite with a marker on a piece of scrap paper but I didn’t really like. I suddenly recall that I have a set of stamps from "Word Play"@Stampin up and there is one said “Happy I DO day” which is perfect for a wedding card.

I punched 2 of the corners diagonally and stuck to the card … Finally I added 2 little embossed hearts cut by the fashionable hearts Exbossit dies from Stampin up.

Wow, I think it’s gorgeous! I’m very happy with this little workout. Thanks a lot!

Handmade gift ~ Wedding Frame

2012 is the year of Dragon, which many Chinese believes it's a great year for getting married and giving birth. 

I got so many friends and family members having their wedding this year. As a crafter, I make gifts for them, to celebrate and to give them a good memory.

I made a wedding frame last weekend for an ex-colleague, I knew him since 10 years ago when he joined the company as a fresh-graduate; and now a solicitor.

When I was taking my maternity leave after giving birth to my first girl, Anson, he was so nice to agreeing to be my maternity cover at work. By that time he was on leave before practising in a law firm. I feel very grateful of his help.

The wedding frame I made was made from a wooden frame bought from a local store, it's in 3-panels. The design on this frame is quite basic, I've used some stickers to record their wedding date on the left panel; stamped and embossed "On this day".

On the other side, I put their "initials" on top of 2 loving hearts and wish them "Happy Together"! Last but not the least, I added a beautiful prima flower to decorate.

In the middle, I added their wedding photo there and I hope this frame become part of their new home. 

I wish them a great marriage, all the best and happy together ever after!!!

Vintage expandable photo box

While I was in the Mixed Media Canvas class at HK MEMORY CHEST (HKMC) few weeks ago, I saw a very nicely wrapped photo box and Erika told me there will be a workshop making that on 7th August.

I registered myself for the class immediately, and the same tutor Grace Wong will be teaching

Later on I found that my friend Stephanie has also enrolled herself to the same class... Wow, can't wait for that!

Finally... it's the day!

By making this photo box, we also learn some technique on book-binding. So I had to pay extra attention :P

The inner pockets of the photo was actually made of a few brown envelopes, cut in halves and made them as a accordion style, i.e. expandable. The material of the brown envelopes is durable so it's perfect for storing photos and for long-term use.

The paper stock that was being used at the class was beautiful. Recently I fell in love with butterflies, my classmates are very nice to have reserved me a piece of butterfly pattern paper.

We also used the "Gear" die-cut from TIM HOLTZ. The gears are the major decoration of the photo box, so we spent quite some time to colour each of them, by ink, crackle paint, embossing powder, etc.

Grace taught us through the steps of binding and wrapping, I found it is actually quite difficult to bind and wrap perfectly without wrinkles and bubbles. However we still made it!

I think it's very pretty and I am loving it!

My 1st Scrapbooking layout ~ The sisters

Inspired by the July Sketch contest by My Creative Sketches, I have decided to do my first ever 12" x 12" layout. Not just because of the chance to win the wonderful kit, but to kick start my life in scrapbooking.

As a mother of 2 lovely girls, aged 1 & 4 respectively, I think I should start my first project with "The SISTERS" as the theme.

I picked a pictures taken last month when the elder sister Anson was carrying her little sister Hannah on her lap.

I've also combined a few different techniques including stamping and embossing, punching, die-cutting using Big-shot ~

These two hearts were die-cut using Big-shot + Hero Art Heart frame die; then stamped with the Hero Art Four hearts cling stamps - The stamps & die are compatible with each other. The hearts were then embossed in Champagne gold and Clear respectively.

I've also handmade a ribbon flower learned from a tutorial by Delaina Burns, Design Team member of My Creative Scrapbook. Plus, punched out two little sakuras.

I have downloaded a beautiful, vintage, poem printable from a website.

I've pretty happy with my first layout overall, though there are still room for improvement, what do you think?
